Contemporary Youth Choir (CYC)

Cambridge Junction x Yvonne Hercules presents…

Contemporary Youth Choir (CYC) a brand new, fully accessible and inclusive programme for those aged 11 – 25.

CYC offers a safe space to express yourself, connect with others and be heard. There is no audition process and no need for any previous vocal experience.

CYC will be led by Yvonne Hercules, but the content will be relevant to the interest and experiences of the group. As a collective the choir will make decisions on content, creative direction and public performances.

This is a pilot project, running for 2-terms and is completely FREE to attend, but you must complete a referral form to join up. You can download the referral form here.

Places are limited and we cannot guarantee you will be offered the programme. We are aware that there are many communities which are underrepresented in the arts and therefore we will focus on inviting those who are from ethnic minority backgrounds, disabled, LGBTQIA+ and neuro diverse.

We can also offer travel bursaries to those with financial difficulties.

About Yvonne Hercules
Yvonne Hercules is a singer-songwriter who has relocated to Cambridge after six years in London. She has recently completed a 16-week residency at Nene Park in Peterborough creating music in response to the park, exploring human connection to and impact on nature related to climate change. She is currently working on a project looking at the collective nature of the Gospel Spirituals and how these songs relate in our contemporary society in light of the BLM protests. She is also in the process of releasing new music over 2022 on Trapped Animal Records which has been supported by PRS Foundation and Help Musicians. Yvonne is also a private singing teacher and has previously been involved in community engagement work with groups in London. Yvonne’s experience and passion means she is very well placed to deliver CYC.
